File under horror: Don’t let organizing, downloading, and sharing large files slow down your team. See how LucidLink prevents tragedy by eliminating bottlenecks. Demo it here.
Stop us if you’ve heard this one before: There’s a major deadline coming up for a very important client. Everyone’s rushing to get it done, but sending large files back and forth means more time spent waiting to work than working.
File sharing and review is a tricky mistress. It’s the difference between getting work done quickly and spending days stopping and starting.
In fact, LucidLink found that teams spend 20% of their time waiting for files. That’s 20% less time creating, reviewing, or optimizing content. That cost to productivity can also cost businesses money and their reputation in the long term.
LucidLink is a storage collaboration platform that frees creative teams to work together from anywhere. With a single shared filespace protected by zero-knowledge encryption, your team can instantly and securely access, edit, and share projects of any size. That means you can get straight to work without downloading, syncing, or versioning disasters.
To better understand the difference LucidLink makes, allow us to set a scene.
Act One: The work at hand
Before getting into this story, meet our cast creative team at Video Von Business Enterprises:
Lucy: The project manager. She runs the show, and whether the big project gets delivered to the client on time all comes down to her.
Daniel: The producer. He’s on location with a production company they partner with in Dublin, Ireland, shooting the video asset for the project.
Jax: The video editor. He’s in LA, so he starts later than the rest of the team. They also go offline before his work day is done, meaning deliverables have to get in early enough for review.
Isabelle: The social media manager. Once everything’s approved, she’ll be posting it to all social channels, but she needs approval from Lucy and the client first. She’s in New York.
Mr. Snrub: The client. He’s the CMO for Emerald Mints, based in Chicago. The mintiest mints in all the Midwest, and he’s paying a lot of money for this campaign. He expects nothing less than perfection.
Act Two: A timing conflict
It’s 8pm in Dublin, and Daniel finally finishes exporting all the footage from the week’s shoot. He alerts the team that he’s sending the files to Jax in LA. Cheers sound out across time zones.
However, a dastardly force stands in their way. Over in Los Angeles, Jax goes to open the files so he can cut them together. It’s a zip file, so he needs to unzip it. Time expected: TWO HOURS?
Jax sighs and lets the team know he’ll get this over as soon as humanly possible. The full two hours go by, and at last he’s able to start working. Once he gets them downloaded it's… a mess. Duplicate files aplenty, and way too hard to sort through. An hour and half later, at 3:30pm LA time, it’s ready to send to Lucy.
But before he can share it her way, the video has to export. This takes another hour and a half. It’s now 8:30pm EST for Lucy. She’s working late, and there’s an email in her inbox marked URGENT from Mr. Snrub.
It’s 7:30pm in Chicago, and Mr. Snrub is displeased. No deliverables, no reviews, just empty promises that the Video Von Business team is “working on it.” He finally gets a message that the video is being sent for his approval. It takes another 30 minutes to make its way to him.
Back in New York, Isabelle finally gets a ping that Mr. Snrub approves the video. Now they just have to send it over…
The video for Emerald Mints finally gets posted the following day, but it’s too late. Mr. Snrub feels snubbed, and they lose Emerald Mints as a client.
Tragedy.
Act Three: Resolution
Let’s run things back a moment. This time, instead of downloading, exporting, and sharing the files back and forth, the Video Von Business Enterprise team uses LucidLink.
Daniel uploads all the footage from Ireland at 8pm in Dublin. He lets the team know, and cheers go out across timezones. Jax hops onto his computer at 12pm PST, opens up LucidLink, and finds all the raw footage. Those duplicate files? Gone. Everything’s neatly sorted where he needs it to be for quick easy reference.
An hour and a half later, the final cut is ready for Lucy’s review. At 4:30, Lucy gives it a thumbs-up and immediately shares it with Mr Snrub.
“I’m so impressed,” Mr. Snrub says from his office in Chicago. “This looks fantastic, and it’s ready to go up whenever you see fit.”
After a little celebrating, Lucy lets Isabelle know the final video asset is waiting for her in LucidLink, ready to post. The entire team is done by 5pm EST, and they all go out to celebrate—except Daniel, who is sound asleep in Ireland.
By removing the hassle of downloading or syncing large files, the team eliminates its biggest bottleneck. The whole team could share files instantly, regardless of location. The team could even use LucidLink to share the file to an external client without compromising security.
